My Daily Paintings — Animals are winding down. May will be my last official month to paint Daily Paintings — Animals. I may paint Daily Animals from time to time but not on a regular basis. I really enjoyed this process and feel I accomplished what I set out to learn — to develop my style and to paint animals faster and better. This last month will be theme -centered. For example, I'll do a week of domestic animals, a week of New Hampshire animals, etc., as I continue to challenge myself with my art.
I'm excited about my next project which will be painting large scale. I already have many large paintings started and many more that I'm excited about working on. And I want to work on various pastel paintings that I've started or have ideas about based on a few things I learned in the latest workshop I took.
The workshop I participated in was a 2-day workshop with the well-known artist Robert Carsten. It is fun to learn from accomplished artists but I particularly enjoy seeing the work of my peers. I always learn so much from them. And it is always fascinating to me to see the different styles and how we can all make a vase look so different with our unique styles. We had the opportunity to paint from life in the workshop and since I enjoy this exercise so much I was inspired to send a sign up sheet around the room for people who would be willing to meet regularly in a life-drawing group where we will take turns posing for each other, thus saving on the costs of hiring a live model.

Green Art — "The Green Queen"
Once the snow has melted and my husband Jim and I can go back to our regular daily walks, it always saddens me to see the amount of trash that has accumulated on the side of the road. I can't imagine how anyone can make the effort to put their finger on the button to open their window and throw out beer bottles, soda cans, packaging from a fast food meal, and countless other items as they drive down the road. But there it all is, sitting and looking strangely out of place among the dried leaves and broken tree branches. As much as I've always disliked picking up after others I dislike even more looking at the trash day after day as we take our 3 dogs on our 2 mile walk. This year Earth day was rainy and wet so we postponed our "trash pick-up" day. But now it is time to clean up the road — because I love this Earth and want to see it looking clean and beautiful, because that is what it deserves. As caretakers and temporary visitors of Earth, it is our responsibility to keep it healthy, a place for every living thing to co-exist and thrive.

Tips for Artists 
I just heard a great art tip — when painting the white or bluish sky that peeks through tree leaves, don't use the same color as the sky but tone it down. Otherwise it will look too stark and unnatural against the dark greens of the tree.
