Art and a Story

Summer Already?

Is it really that time again, already? And by 'that time' of course I mean summer. Well, officially not but unofficially we just had Memorial Day and the weather certainly has been heating up. And with it, all the birds are back and the nesting is in full swing!

A friend also just posted a photo of a doe and its fawn. I have seen a few deer coming through as they stop for the deer lick or the deer chow I toss out. But so far, none with a fawn. And we have a few regular turkeys that come for the corn I throw out, even one that hops on one leg. Either it hurt its leg or it was born with a stunted leg since I see the foot but the leg is always pulled up.

And then there are the countless birds: the bluebirds had a problem when, after they took up residence in the specifically built tree swallow house, they didn't want the tree swallows nesting in what was the bluebird house close by. I read up on this situation and what I read was that the bluebirds would be ok with it, and they were. They are both in the middle of a nesting right now and I will hopefully be around when they all fledge. The phoebes are back under our back deck in a nest they built last year. Early risers I hear their song every morning at 5am.

Also, after several years of not having any visits, we caught a couple of sightings on our cameras of a black bear and also the fox. I was happy to see both of them around and look forward to seeing more of them (obviously, when I'm indoors, particularly when the bear visits!) All wildlife is welcome on our property!
