Art and a Story

Birds, Birds, Birds

During a recent early spring Nor'easter in my state, we were visited by more birds than I could count at one time. The two feet of snow covered the ground that, just days before, the many birds, several who were just returning to the area, found bugs that were just emerging, along with the daffodils, crocus, and other spring flowers.

Of course, the regulars were there; the chickadees, the titmouse, the juncos, who surprisingly, only seem to show up in the winter months, the woodpeckers who enjoy the suet we put out all winter, the different kinds of finches, including the American goldfinches, the cardinals, and of course, one of my favorites, the bluebird. I always thought they were here only during the summer months but then I started noticing them and hearing their sweet song at different times throughout the year. And they came in not only for the seeds but also for the suet. I also heard, only one day, the phoebes but I haven't heard them since. And there has been no sign of the tree swallows.

And now, again, we are snowfree and the flowers are again re-emerging. The birds are back to their business of preparing for their offspring. And all is right in my little corner of NH.
