Here in NH we are always hoping for an early spring. But we rarely get one. I was just talking to a friend about how winter outstays its welcome every year and a beloved season in December and January, we are cursing it in April if it continues to snow on our crocuses and daffodils that are emerging from the warming ground.
This painting of a swan was from a photo I took in Exeter, NH. Every year a swan couple (I've heard they mate for life) would come back to this pond to raise their brood. I loved Exeter when we lived there so I think they picked a great spot. But one year one of the pair returned alone. I thought this painting showed, although still such a majestic-looking bird, a certain sadness in now making its way in the world on its own. Or maybe it was looking for another mate. We moved from the town so we never saw the swan again.
