So although I'm not painting as much as I used to, I still need to go up to my studio and paint from time to time. I miss it and whenever I'm in my studio, which I really enjoy, kind of like my ivory tower, I am surrounded by the sights and smells of being an artist. So I loved the opportunity to not only paint but also donate to a worthy cause - fund raising for a local food bank.
Of course my subjects of choice are always animals, my favorite subjects to paint. I sorted through my hundreds of photos to find a couple that I thought would work on slate. The first one I painted was from a photo of a bright red parrot. He was sitting on a tree limb and what I really liked was the background which showed some greenery here and there that I thought would pair nicely with the natural slate background.
I'm hoping someone finds it to their liking and purchases the painting from the Galleries at 30 Main in Meredith, NH. It is a beautiful gallery run by 3 artists. My friend Vynnie Hale is a fabulous artist and the original owner of the gallery. See for yourself! When traveling around Lake Winni, stop in for a visit and purchase a beautiful piece of art. Art makes a great gift for the holidays!
