I recently participated in a couple of free webinars sponsored by F&W Media (Artist Magazine) that featured artist Johannes Vroothuis demonstrating his artistic talents for whoever signed up to watch. Interested individuals from around the world logged in to view the webinar;...
I have no doubt everyone was pleased with the wealth of information we were fed. I, for one, not only purchased the top 3 books that Jo recommended (North Light books, of course) but I also added to my 20 Pan Pastel set by purchasing two more sets of 20. North Light books, as well as Colorfin, the makers of Pan Pastel, I'm sure were both rewarded by the additional sales that came to them as a result of the webinar. Obviously it has been a successful endeavor for them because I have now watched 3 of them and signed up for the next one, as well.
That was my brief introduction into my review of one of the books Jo highly recommended that we purchase and that is "Your Artist's Brain" by Carl Purcell. Jo believes it will become our 'artist bible'. Instead of flipping through the pages as I often do when I buy a new art book, I decided to do the work and am following along in the book, doing the drawings, page by page.
Although I already feel like I have developed my artist's brain to the point where I no longer see things but I see shapes, I still believe I have much to learn as I continue to grow and develop as an artist. I will share some of my drawings in this space as I work my way through the book. Here is one of the first ones I did, together with the drawing from the book.
